The Cup Rooted & Well

Why the same meal is fine one week and floors you the next.

Living in a body that reacts teaches you to watch it from a distance. You learn to manage it, and somewhere in the managing you stop trusting what it tells you.

Your body carries a cup. While there is room in it, you feel like yourself. When it overflows, the body speaks, and that is the flush or the crash that seems to come from nowhere. Set your cup and fill it. Then drain it, and read your own math.

Genetics makes it possible. Environment makes it happen.

Genetics sets the cup

Small cup Large cup

This sets the size of your cup and the water you were born holding. You did not pick it.

Depletion sets the wall

Running low Nourished

Your minerals and nutrients set how much wall the cup has. Run low and it holds less before it spills. Like your genetics, this is the vessel you start from, never something poured in.

Life fills the cup

Level dropped. The cup stayed the size it always was. This is what going quiet can look like.

Rim

Room to spare

Your cup is sitting at 0% of its rim.

Degrees

Why illness varies

A small cup under a heavy load spills early and often, and that reads as serious disease. A large cup under a light load may never reach the rim. Run low on the minerals and nutrients that build the wall, and even a fair-sized cup holds less before it spills. Same kind of genes underneath, different math on top.

Going quiet

Quiet you hold

Drain the load below the rim and keep it there. The cup stays the size it always was. The level drops, so the symptoms recede, sometimes far enough that it reads as gone.

The honest edge

When the cup does not apply

Some conditions stay fixed whatever the level. Celiac is mine. No amount of draining lets me eat gluten, and lifelong avoidance is its own kind of winning. Know your category before you accept any ceiling.

Reading your own math is the part nobody hands you. Not a number to hit, and no finish line anyone is required to reach. Knowing what fills your cup is how you get back to being in the body instead of bracing against it.

Which one on your list fills your cup faster than it should? I would like to know.

Some resolve. Some learn to go quiet. Both are whole.

The Whole of You

Sharing lived experience and a read of the science to help you understand your own body, alongside your doctors, never instead of them. This is not medical advice. Work any changes with your own clinician.
